Fake prophet in court after duping lady of N355,000

A man who parades himself as a prophet has been arraigned in court for duping a woman. A 26-year-old man, Samuel Omileke, who has been parading himself as a 'Prophet', has been arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates' Court sitting in Lagos State, for swindling a woman, Taibat Rafiu, of the sum of N355,000. 'Prophet' Omileke, a resident of Agege, was slammed with a two-count charge of obtaining by pretence and stealing after he duped the lady of the amount in the guise of providing spiritual help for her. The prosecutor in the case, Inspector Thomas Nurudeen, told the court that Omileke had approached Rafiu, pretending that he was a prophet and would assist her in finding solutions to her 'spiritual problems.' "Omileke urged Rafiuto recount her problems, which he buttressed by claiming to have had prior knowledge of before approaching her. They then fixed an appointment for the deliverance to be carried out. He further requested that she had to pay the sum of N310,000 for his services and went ahead to collect her gold necklace which he claimed was needed for the deliverance. Rafiu paid him the sum and gave him her necklace valued at N4,000 for the deliverance after which Omileke absconded." When the charges were read to him, Omileke pleaded not guilty to the charges and the Magistrate, Bola Osunsanmi, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000, with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till August 17 for mention.
