A 51-year-old father of four grown children, Francis Onyeji, has been remanded in prison pending when his case will be heard on August 25, 2015, after he dragged to the Effurun Magistrates' Court sitting in Delta State, for allegedly raping a 13-year-old maid who lived with his family.
Onyeji, a staff of an oil servicing company in Warri, and his wife, Chibuzor, had been in the news for several weeks now after the girl who is a niece to the wife, revealed that he had been defiling her several times and the woman had descended on the girl, beating her to a pulp and using a hot knife to inflict severe injuries on her.
Onyeji who was declared wanted, was however, arrested and arraigned before the court presided over by Blessing Ideh, on a one-count charge of unlawful carnal knowledge/defilement of the teenager.
When the charge was read to him, he pleaded not guilty and he was consequently ordered remanded in prison till August 25.
The police prosecution, Sergeant Enikido Akele, told the court that the accused absconded when the matter was reported at the Ekpan Police station on July 1 while he was finally arrested on July 28.
